Tamil actor and Bharathiraja’s son Manoj Bharathiraja died of a cardiac arrest at 48 in Chennai on Tuesday, March 25. The actor had recently returned from bypass surgery and was recovering at his Chetpet home when he suffered a cardiac arrest in the evening.

Born to Bharathiraja and Chandraleela in 1976, Manoj began his acting career in his father’s 1999 film Taj Mahal. Though the movie was a box-office disaster, AR Rahman’s evergreen music and Bharathiraja’s direction of the songs made an indelible mark, and Manoj managed to leave an indelible mark on Tamil viewers.
In a rollercoaster career of highs and lows, Manoj acted in movies such as Samudhiram, Kadal Pookkal, Varushamellam Vasantham, and Eera Nilam.

Having done lead roles in most of his early movies, Manoj then moved on to play second leads and performed in movies like Vaaimai, Eeswaran, Maanaadu, and Viruman.

Manoj directed his first movie in 2023 in the form of the romance-drama Margazhi Thingal, which included his father Bharathiraja, as well as Suseenthiran and newcomers Shyam Selvan and Rakshana.Chief Minister Stalin conveyed his condolence on the demise of Manoj Bharathiraja.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed shock at learning about Manoj’s premature death at a tender age. He offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Having been launched in his father’s directorial venture Taj Mahal, Manoj Bharathiraja made his own mark in the industry with key roles in films like Samuthiram, Alli Arjuna, and Varushamellam Vasantham.

He also started working as a director. Chief Minister Stalin has condoled the death, saying, “I express my condolences to director Bharathiraja, his family members, and his friends in the film industry.”Tamil Manila Congress president G.K. Vasan and Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai also offered their sincere condolences.
